Hierro

Named after the Spanish island to which María (Anaya) and her five-year-old son Diego are travelling by ferry when the boy disappears, HIERRO bears a resemblance to Lars von Trier’s ANTICHRIST for its reality-blurring study of a mother’s consuming grief and eventual madness. Six months after Diego’s vanishing, Maria returns to El Hierro and sees – or thinks she sees – her son playing on the beach.
