Porgy & Me + Q&A

CFF-U certification
DOCUMENTARIES
Director: Susanna Boehm.
Germany, 2009. 86 mins.
The African American singers of the New York Harlem Theatre have been touring with Gershwin's Porgy & Bess, the world's first black opera, for decades, all over the world. Life on tour is challenging for the singers, as exhausting travel has forced them to give up a normal family life. But these are the sacrifices necessary in the still predominantly white world of opera. Three generations of African-American life experience are united by one dream: to overcome the feelings of prejudice and exclusion that have shaped their lives for centuries and to shape their future with their own hands.

We are delighted to welcome director Susannah Boehm for a Q&A following both screenings.
