Synopsis

Original Title: Sobakasu

Kasumi (Tōko Miura) is almost 30, single, and still lives with her parents – but, she doesn’t seem to mind that. As her colleagues and family drag her to double dates and arranged marriage meetings, she slowly, but surely, asserts herself in the world. A couple of chance encounters help her come to terms with a truth she’s known for years but hasn’t had the courage to voice – she simply does not feel sexual attraction, nor interest in romantic relationships. Shinya Tamada’s skillful direction and Tōko Miura's outstanding lead performance craft a refreshing story about a subject rarely explored in cinema.

We are delighted to welcome Yi Wang, Queer East Festival Director, for an extended introduction before the screening on Monday 28th October.
