Synopsis

The Human Hibernation portrays a future in which humans adopt hibernation as a survival mechanism due to climate change. Clara searches for answers when her younger sister, Erin, disappears after waking up prematurely from hibernation. The film premiered at the Berlinale 2024, where it won the FIPRESCI award, and has nature as its main protagonist. Captivating images and sounds abound, making humans merge discretely with the background. Anna Cornudella’s feature directorial debut blends documentary and fiction to examine themes of nature, family and environmental adaptation. Humanity’s relationship with the environment is explored with little dialogue and a contemplative pace. It deserves to be enjoyed on the big screen.
