Oscar Noms for CFF43 Alumni


The Cambridge Film Festival is thrilled to congratulate the teams behind the incredible films showcased during last October’s 43rd Cambridge Film Festival, which have gone on to receive prestigious nominations for the 2025 Academy Awards. These films represent diverse voices and creative visions, and we are proud to have been a small part of their journeys to global recognition.

The Girl With The Needle Huge congratulations to Magnus von Horn and the entire team behind The Girl With The Needle on their Oscar nomination for Best International Feature Film! We are proud to have hosted the UK premiere of this compelling film at the Cambridge Film Festival.

Anora Directed by the visionary Sean Baker, Anora has been nominated for four Oscars: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress (Mikey Madison), and Best Supporting Actor (Yura Borisov). This gripping tale left a lasting impression on our audiences at #CFF43, and we are delighted to see its achievements celebrated on this scale.

Flow The visually stunning Flow has been recognised with a nomination for Best Animated Feature Film. A masterpiece of animation, this film captivated audiences during its screening at the festival and continues to gain widespread acclaim.

A Real Pain, Written and directed by Jesse Eisenberg, A Real Pain has earned nominations for Best Original Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor (Kieran Culkin). This poignant exploration of family, memory, and identity was a standout feature of our programme.

The Seed of a Sacred Fig, The Seed of a Sacred Fig has been nominated for Best International Feature Film. This beautifully crafted story reflects the power of cinema to bridge cultures and tell deeply human stories, and we are thrilled to have shared it with festival-goers.

Nickel Boys, The powerful adaptation Nickel Boys, based on Colson Whitehead’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, has received nominations for Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay. Its screening at #CFF43 showcased its unflinching narrative and exceptional performances.

No Other Land, The final CFF feature film was nominated for an academy award, and No Other Land was nominated for Best Documentary Feature Film. This compelling and timely documentary was a highlight of the Festival and left audiences deeply moved.

A Celebration of Excellence. Alongside these feature films it is incredibly exciting to be able to say that the following short films that screened at the 2024 Cambridge Film Festival have also been nominated for Academy Awards:

Magic Candies This Japanese animated short film, directed by Daisuke Nishio, was showcased in the "Shorts for Families" segment of the Festival and has now been nominated for Best Animated Short Film at the 2025 Oscars.

I'm Not a Robot, A Dutch live-action short directed by Victoria Warmerdam, was part of the "Shorts on the Edge" programme. It has received a nomination for Best Live Action Short Film.

As the Cambridge Film Festival celebrates its 43rd year, seeing these films gain such well-deserved recognition is incredibly rewarding. Each of these works reflects the Festival’s commitment to showcasing bold, innovative, and thought-provoking cinema from around the world.
