Screening of Fledglings
Tuesday 13 Feb, 18:15 Arts Picturehouse
This screening is a part of the inaugural Cambridge Arts Festival, proudly presented by Cambridge BID
The Cambridge Film Festival are delighted to present a screening of the film Fledglings by Polish filmmaker Lidia Duda following its excellent reception at the 2023 Festival.
Winner of the 2023 Youth Lab Jury Award, Fledglings is a stunningly beautiful and touching documentary that follows Zosia, Oskar, and Kinga, residents of a boarding school for visually impaired children in Poland. We follow their daily lives as they learn to navigate the world, face challenges, and form friendships.
Abby Pollock, Youth Lab lead:
"The Youth Lab Jury selected Fledglings because of its artistic choices and its sensitive and immersive portrayal of the experience of the children, making them centre stage and telling their stories with great empathy."
Comments from Jury members during judging:
"A beautiful film about a beautiful story and beautiful people."
"I loved how observant it was, and how it followed the children so naturally, and often filmed from the height, truly putting them at the front and centre."
"I became immersed within these children's lives and began to understand their experiences"
"The cinematography and editing are great, and the story being told is just wonderful."
The screening will be led by the Youth Lab (the Festival’s initiative for young people aged 16 to 24) and will be open to all. It will include a pre-recorded Q&A with the filmmaker after the film.
